The aged care sector has been plagued by staff shortages for years, but the COVID pandemic has now caused the issue to reach crisis point.  

Lockdowns, single site working arrangements and staff having to isolate due to COVID exposure are leaving aged care providers struggling to cover shifts.  

In response, the Australian Government has pledged to create 80,000 new home care packages over two years and train 13,000 home-care staff. This commitment includes increasing the minimum amount of daily care time for people in residential aged care.

A CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support is considered a baseline standard qualification for aged care support workers. An advantage of enrolling in this qualification is that you can complete it in 6 months and you are able to gain hands-on experience with industry level, vocational work placement. After completion, your career opportunities will include work in residential aged care, personal care, nursing assistants, disability support and individual support.
