On 26 November, James Cook University Brisbane proudly unveiled the Australia Inspirational Centre, a space dedicated to fostering innovation, cultural awareness and learning.
We were honoured to welcome The Honourable Tony Abbott AC, former Prime Minister of Australia, to officially open the centre. In his keynote address, Mr Abbott spoke passionately about Australia’s remarkable journey, from its early days as a remote settlement to becoming one of the world’s most successful democracies.
The timing of this event was especially significant, coinciding with the release of his new book, Australia: A History, featuring a foreword by renowned historian Geoffrey Blainey. This vivid and thought-provoking work explores how Australia evolved from its beginnings as a colonial outpost into a nation celebrated for freedom, fairness, and prosperity.
Mr Abbott shared insights from the book that resonate strongly with the purpose of the Australia Inspirational Centre: to inspire future leaders by reflecting on the values that shaped Australia — resilience, inclusivity, and the spirit of the “fair go.”
The centre will serve as a hub for dialogue, research, and events that encourage students and the wider community to engage with Australia’s story to inspire the future.
Congratulations to everyone involved in making this milestone possible!
