Joy, a stay-at-home mum from Widgee, always wanted to do something for herself—something that could inspire others and build community. With two young daughters, one of whom she homeschools, her days were busy, but she never let go of her passion for fitness.
Her journey began with free fitness classes run by the Gympie Regional Council. She joined a group in Kilkivan, and even after the classes ended, the group kept meeting—driven by mutual support and Joy’s natural ability to lead and motivate others.
Her friends saw her spark and encouraged her to take the leap: become a fitness instructor.
That’s when Joy discovered the Parent Pathways Program—a turning point in her journey. The program offered not just guidance and encouragement, but also the financial support she needed to pursue her dream. With their help, Joy enrolled in her Certificate III in Fitness through TAFE Queensland and completed her First Aid and CPR certification—essential steps toward becoming a qualified instructor.
“Without the support and funding from Parent Pathways, I never would have been able to get this off the ground,” Joy shares. “They helped me take the first step toward something I’ve always wanted to do.”
While still completing her studies, Joy didn’t wait to make an impact. She launched Move N Motions, her own fitness business, offering affordable group classes that bring people together to move, connect, and grow. She now runs sessions three days a week at Glastonbury Hall, and once a week at both Widgee Hall and Lower Wonga Hall—creating welcoming spaces across the region for fitness and friendship.
Joy’s story is a testament to what happens when passion meets opportunity. From a mum with a dream to a community leader in motion, she’s proving that with the right support, anything is possible.
