In today's world, navigating a career change can seem like a daunting task. The hiring process has changed a lot in the past decade with social media use and technology skills now a necessary part of job searching. Gone are the days when people applied for jobs in-store with a one-page resume.

Having up-to-date technology skills is a common setback for mature jobseekers Luckily, however, it is one that can be overcome with the right support and training.

Jason, newly unemployed, recently tacked this task with help from the Sarina Russo Job Access Team.

After a long career in law enforcement and transport, Jason felt it was time for a career and lifestyle change. However, Jason struggled to find work in Queensland after moving here from Melbourne.

His friendly job consultant referred him to the Sarina Russo Institute Career Transition Assistance (CTA) program. The CTA program is a government initiative that helps over 45s into employment. The CTA program provides mentorship, training and support for people trying to get back into the workforce.

"The CTA program for me was really, really beneficial, coming out of law enforcement and transport industries to move across into retail. They were instrumental in their help for me to get my resumes and my cover letters up to scratch," Jason said.

The CTA program provides tailored support to each candidate's needs, recognising existing knowledge and experience. Each candidate has a coach to guide them through the 8-week course and help them find employment.

Jason said, "The trainers are really, really good. They were there at a moment's notice. Any advice that I needed, questions that I had, no matter how silly they may have been, they were always answered fully and explained to me, and when they did my resume and all that, and they came back, they explained all the changes that they made and why they made those changes as well".

Since graduating from the Sarina Russo Institute CTA program, Jason has secured work in his dream industry of boating and fishing.

"I was fortunate enough to secure employment within six weeks in retail, doing something that I love. As you can see, I love fishing, and that's predominantly where my work lies now is in retail with a fishing store," says Jason.

The Sarina Russo Institute is Australia's leading provider of the Career Transition Program (CTA). For more information on the CTA program, please click here.
