Two young ladies, Shehanna and Sarah, embarked on a remarkable journey that began in Year 9 as a mere 8-week work experience. Little did they know that their time spent with the hospital's furry inhabitants would ignite a flame of passion for animal care that would shape their futures.
Choosing to extend their stay, Shehanna and Sarah dedicated two years of their lives to volunteering at the Port Stephens Koala Hospital. Their commitment and passion for animal welfare became evident as they tirelessly worked to ensure the well-being of the rescued animals. This volunteer experience not only enriched their lives but also laid the foundation for the next step in their journey.
Recognising the dedication of these two young ladies, the Port Stephens Koala Hospital offered them a traineeship, a gesture that spoke volumes about their commitment and the impact they had made on the organisation.
The experience was not limited to theory and desk work; it provided Shehanna and Sarah with a hands-on opportunity to interact with various rescued animals, broadening their understanding of wildlife care. In their own words, they stated, "It has given us so much opportunity to travel, learn in so many ways, not just theoretical work behind a desk." This sentiment reflects the holistic approach of their traineeship, emphasising the practical aspects of wildlife care and nurturing a well-rounded skill set.
Shehanna and Sarah's journey from work-experience participants to dedicated volunteers and finally to trainees in Certificate III in Wildlife and Exhibited Animal Care is a testament to the transformative power of passion and dedication. Their story not only highlights the importance of fostering a love for animals but also emphasises the role of supportive workplaces and apprenticeship and traineeship providers, like our Industry Consultants, in shaping the future of our workforce.
