Queensland Mental Health Week 2024: Connect for Mental Health

At Sarina Russo Group, we believe that mental health is everyone’s business. This Queensland Mental Health Week (QMHW), we are proud to embrace the 2024 theme, “Connect for Mental Health,” which encourages all Queenslanders to take proactive steps towards fostering mental health and wellbeing within themselves and their communities.

Connect with Self: Taking time for self-care is crucial. Whether it’s enjoying a peaceful moment with a good book, practicing mindfulness, or staying active, small actions can have a big impact on our mental health.

Connect with Community: Building a sense of belonging and inclusion helps reduce isolation. We can create welcoming spaces, support vulnerable members of our community, and strengthen bonds by participating in local events and activities.

Connect with Others: Nurturing relationships with friends, family, and loved ones creates a safety net for our mental health. Simple actions like checking in on someone or spending quality time together help build stronger connections.

Connect with Nature: Spending time outdoors boosts wellbeing. Whether it’s a walk in the park, gardening, or simply enjoying the beauty of nature, connecting with the environment plays a significant role in reducing stress and promoting mindfulness.

Behind the artwork

The artwork Stronger connection creates strong health by Leah Cummins, created for Queensland Mental Health Week, conveys the significance of connection to country, community, and ancestors in fostering mental and emotional wellbeing. Leah's painting illustrates the journey toward a healthier life, drawing inspiration from ancestral practices and the healing power of nature.

Key elements include purple and green, representing positivity, balance, and personal growth. Footprints symbolise individual mental health journeys, while rivers and waterholes highlight the nourishment and inner peace found through connection with land and ancestors. The meeting places in yellow reflect community support and hope, while native foods symbolise the importance of a healthy heart for mental and spiritual wellness.

Leah’s message emphasises the strength gained from self-awareness, community belonging, and connection with country, encouraging a balanced, harmonious life.

This Queensland Mental Health Week, let us take the time to connect with ourselves, our communities, and the world around us. Together, we can foster a mentally healthy future for all.
